About BlackMud 黑泥

In the Lingnan region of China, the craftsmanship of Xiangyun silk is intricate and unique. It begins with 100% pure silk and traditional plant-based dyes, and includes a special step known as “passing through river mud.” This process uses mineral-rich river mud from the local area, which is repeatedly applied and sun-dried on the dyed silk. Through this “baptism” of river mud, the silk develops a unique luster and deep, rich tones. From this nourishing mud comes the name “Black Mud,” symbolizing the harmony between traditional craftsmanship and nature.

We hope to connect people with the textures of nature and offer a touch of that grounding “beauty of the earth.” Black Mud is not just a textile; it’s a way of life—a way to stay connected to the earth in our busy, modern world and to appreciate the simple strength of handcrafted artistry. Through the natural elegance brought by the Xiangyun silk technique, Black Mud aims to share this beauty with the world.
